The Whale Route

If you’ve known me for any amount of time, you’re probably aware that I have a strong connection to the ocean, mostly through sports but also environmental issues. I’ve always been fascinated by the creatures that live within.

And sometimes they even mix in interesting ways (fauna and sport), like that time I fell while windsurfing of the coast of Spain in the Gibraltar Strait, some 2km out, and a pilot whale came to check on me…! (they’re relatively small, with “only” 5m!)

The “explorer” in me is inevitably draw to the ocean, and seizes every opportunity to visit it, above or under the water.

All this makes it a no brainer to present and strongly recommend a project that’s being put together by Escola de Mar (School of the Sea) - The Route of the Whales.

In there own words, the goal is to “… set up a tourist route, with historical and scientific focus, along the continental Portuguese coast, aiming to make known important points of the coast in terms of historical and/or current presence of cetaceans ..."

Tourism and knowledge about whales? I’m in!

This is a crowd funded project, that is, we all chip in and comes to life.
Everything you need to know about how to participate is here and the deadline is June 21st 2014, so hurry!
